Aims and Intentions finished

I have created a crime drama called ‘Unconscious’ which follows an attempted murder case of a black teenager in a rural village. The colour palette will be quite restricted and bleak in order to reflect the tone and atmosphere of the show and camerawork and editing will be used to emphasise the characters conversation and reveal their reactions. The shots will consist of mainly handheld, tracking or panning shots at eye height in order to create a sense of realism, furthered by the use of natural lighting and diegetic sound, making the audience feel as if they are part of the events/conversation. However, certain shots will be close-up in order to emphasise the event that is happening in order to gain the audiences' main attention, such as the close-up of DCI Allen’s leg.  

The main characters will be two ambitious white female detectives in their twenties who appeal to the target audience as they can relate to them through the use of dialogue and mise-en-scene. These characters are dressed in attire appropriate to their profession as well as their make-up and hair, further highlighting their professionalism and attitude to their work, linking to Liesbet Van Zoonen’s theory. Also, the inclusion of the black victim will call attention to hate crimes and racism in the modern day, making the audience reflect on their own views through the experiences of the characters. As the victim is male, male audience members can relate to him and continue to watch the show. A male forensic analyst will be included in the scene who could also appeal to the male demographic and represents the male social class in the clip. The rural setting of the show could also appeal to target audiences as they could live in an urban environment and want to escape the reality of their lives. The character’s follow Propp’s character theory whilst defying Laura Mulvey’s feminist theory. 

The Magazine, ‘Exposure’, will feature a brighter colour pallet with the colour scheme including white, red and black. A mixture of bold, italic, serif and sans-serif fonts are also included for variety. The cover page and double page spread feature a close-up image of the main actress looking directly into the camera, appealing to the audience. It features cover lines focusing on the actress and the show as well as other typical lifestyle magazine articles. The double page spread focuses on the actress and her involvement in the show and includes stills from the programme, encouraging the audience to watch it. 

The programme will be fitting for ITV's drama commissions as they say that the broadcaster has no off-limit subjects and can 'plunge to very dark areas of human behaviour' which fits well due to the inclusion of racism and attempted murder/violence. They also feature more fictional programmes compared to Channel 5 and therefore, are more suitably fit. The programme would be scheduled for 9pm as ITV typically shows their crime dramas at this time and the programme has a more mature tone than shows that may be showed earlier. The schedule for the show would also benefit the audience as they would have returned home from work and would want to relax.
