Aims and Intentions

Use evidence from your research into: similar products; the industry context; your target audience, as well as theoretical perspectives, to explain your decisions: How and why will you use media language in your media production? How and why will you construct representations of individuals, groups and issues/events? How will you target your intended audience/users? How will your production conform to its industry context? For my audio-visual production have decided to create a crime drama which follows an attempted murder case. The main characters will be two ambitious white female detectives in their twenties who may appeal to the target audience as they can relate to them through the use of dialogue and mise-en-scene. These characters will be dressed in attire appropriate to their profession, as well as make-up and their hair, further highlighting their professionalism and attitude to their work. Also, the inclusion of the bla...

Pitch document

Title: Unconscious Logline: A young detective investigates the attempted murder of a black teenage boy in a rural area after being transferred from London. With the boy in an induced coma and the pressure rising, will she be able to solve the case? Genre: Murder Mystery Crime drama (?), female led crime drama. Audience: Mainly white females due to the predominantly white female cast. Also probably part of the C1/B socio-economic group. Unique selling point: Follows an attempted murder rather than an actual murder and therefore, eventually get the victim's perspective. It also follows two female detectives and has the victim being male, which isn't normally seen in crime dramas. Convergence: The title will feature on both productions and they will also both have similar fonts and formats. An image iconic to the show will feature throughout the newspaper spread and the appear in the show. Colours fitting to the programme will be used in the newspaper spread to li...

Aims and Intentions Draft

My aims and intentions for this project are to create a crime drama piece for ITV which focuses more on a female detectives point of view and defies typical stereotypes of crime drama by having a male victim. However, as the victim is black, the theme of prejudice and hate crimes would be brought up through the narrative. I also aim to oppose another stereotype by changing the typical mise-en-scene of the environment of the show based in a rural location rather than an urban one. However, the costuming would be similar to other crime dramas and the programme will also feature police iconography to highlight the main premise of the show. I then aim to make a three page spread relating to the programme. I want the front cover to be engaging and interesting as well as having the format and mise-en-scene relating to the programme's theme and genre. I also want the double page spread to have a similar format and to have interesting content in order to capture the r...

Audience psychographic profile

A female British citizen in her twenties who has a steady and well-paid job/career, probably in the C1/B socio-economic group. She grew up in a middle-class family as and is well educated, having gone to university to do a degree. She also grew up in a rural area but then relocated to an urban environment for her work. She probably wouldn't be a police officer or detective as the narrative follows a pair of female detectives and she would, therefore, want to escape her reality after work rather than watch a show based around it. She wouldn't necessarily follow a particular religion and would probably be white due to the predominantly white cast. She would like anything with a mysterious element as she is curious and also enjoys problem-solving and therefore does puzzles in magazines and newspapers. She is also quite social and spends time out with her friends after work during the week. She would spend her weekends also meeting with her friends, but would also attend e...

Narrative idea

The narrative of my programme will revolve around a detective inspector investigating the attempted murder of a black teenager in a rural community. The detective is helped by the her partner as they try to solve the case whilst the teenager lies in an induced coma in the hospital. Eventually, the teenager wakes up but has little recollection of the event and therefore, with the help of the two detectives, tries to retrace his steps in order to remember what happened and to find who tried to kill him.

Finished Treatment Sheet

Treatment sheet dr aft:   The show:   C rime drama programme for  itv   The Dying Truth (?)   Target Audience:   M illennial audience (18-35)   P redominantly female audience   S ocioeconomic grouping -> appeals to all groups, probably more to B/C1 or 2   Probably not working in the police force themselves as they would want to escape their  work whilst watching tv   Q uite curious and adventurous, seek escape from reality   Enjoy trying to solve the mystery and any other problems that occur   British people  due to the location  but potential to sell it to other countries due to  it s  insight into Britain.   Probably quite active, enjoy problem  solving and other brain activities.   P robably fit in the  achievers and  aspirer   groups due to the heavy focus on a professional work environment  and  the ...

Possible Location 2

Image
I personally think this location is better than the previous one as it has more open space and a clearer entrance. It is similarly derelict, contributing to the atmosphere and tone of the scene. Also, it is also clearly in a rural environment, so stays with what I wanted for the mise-en-scene. However, it is quite close to some allotments so there may be people nearby making some noise but it shouldn't be too distracting.

Possible location 1

I think this will be a good location as it is derelict but it is also clearly in a rural area, which fits in with the mise-en-scene and atmosphere I am aiming to achieve through the location. However, there are lots of brambles near by which you have to walk through to get to the location and a lot of horse manure nearby as well.
