Action Plan

Week 1
Think about which genre I might do for the project. Also, look at the different programmes included in the timetables for each channel over the week and get a better idea of which channel would be more appropriate.

Week 2
Focus mainly on researching the difference between the two channels and their preferences in genres and production value/quality. Also look at the differences in the time slots at each channel and which slot would be more appropriate depending on the genre and if the slot alters what can be included in the show.

Week 3
Watch an episode of a programme in the genre you're thinking of doing and then do a textual analysis of the episode including the general codes and conventions of the genre included and the mise-en-scene used. Also mention the representation and narrative and some detailed analysis of specific shots. Do this for two other programmes as well.

Week 4
Make a table with different audience profiles for each different genre you're thinking of doing including demographic and things such as interests, occupations, education, race, religion, location, magazine preferences etc. Maybe create a questionnaire for millennials to answer to achieve a better knowledge of what would interest the target audience. Once this is done, decide which genre would be best to do looking back at your research and what you feel is most accessible.

Week 5
Once you've decided your genre, do some research into your selected channel and its previous shows in the same genre and target audience range. Also do some research into the genre itself and find out the classic codes and conventions are used in shows of that genre. You could also look at how shows in the same genre have typically been displayed on lifestyle magazines.
